Grantville Project Showcase

This completed home in Grantville is a custom reworking of our Eden design, adapted to suit the shape of the block, the orientation of the site and the specific needs of the family who would call it home.

From the outset, the goal was to create a home that felt generous and highly functional, while still delivering a strong architectural identity. The result is a modern industrial family home with warmth at its core: clean lines, durable materials, light-filled living spaces and a layout that gives every member of the household room to live well.

The site planning was central to the success of this design. Rather than forcing a standard layout onto the block, the home was reshaped to sit comfortably within the site and make the most of its outdoor areas. The long rear living zone opens directly onto a broad timber entertaining deck and landscaped backyard, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. From above, you can see how clearly the home has been organised around usable outdoor space, with room for entertaining, lawn, circulation and quieter zones to gather around the firepit.

The material palette is what gives this home its distinctive personality. Externally, Scyon Axon cladding brings texture and rhythm, while industrial-style brickwork and a timber-look garage door soften the darker façade and add contrast. Inside, grinded & sealed concrete slab flooring provides durability and a subtle industrial edge underfoot, balanced by warm timber cabinetry, white walls, white benchtops and black detailing throughout. It is a palette that feels refined without being precious, exactly right for a busy family home.

At the centre of the home is the kitchen, and it is very much the hero of the interior. A large island anchors the space, finished with crisp white surfaces and dark base cabinetry, while timber overhead cupboards introduce warmth and softness. Black pendant lights drop low over the bench and dining area, adding definition and atmosphere. The walk-in pantry keeps the main kitchen streamlined, and the breakfast bar creates a natural place for casual meals, conversations and day-to-day family life. With open sightlines to the living, dining and deck beyond, it is a kitchen designed for connection as much as function.

That sense of connection continues into the main living and dining zone. Full-height glazing and expansive sliding doors draw in natural light and frame views across the deck and landscaped garden beds. Sheer curtains soften the space and keep it feeling calm, while the open proportions make it ideal for both entertaining and everyday living. It is easy to imagine family dinners at the long timber table, kids moving between indoors and out, and larger gatherings flowing naturally onto the deck.

A key strength of this home is how well it balances togetherness with separation. The main bedroom is privately positioned and generously scaled, complete with double walk-in robes and a spacious ensuite. The ensuite continues the home’s modern industrial language with dark floor tiles, black fittings, a walk-in shower, a freestanding bath and a strong monochrome palette that feels both practical and luxurious. Elsewhere, three additional bedrooms provide excellent accommodation for children or guests, while a separate retreat/study offers flexibility for working from home, homework or a quiet reading space.

The tucked-away rumpus room is another feature that makes this home especially well suited to family life. Positioned away from the main living hub, it creates a dedicated zone for movie nights, gaming or simply giving older children their own space. This kind of zoning is what elevates a floor plan from good to genuinely liveable, especially for growing families whose needs change over time.

Outside, the home continues to deliver. The timber entertaining deck extends the living space beautifully, while the backyard has been shaped into usable zones rather than leftover space. Lawn, planting, paved seating and open circulation all work together to make the exterior feel considered and inviting. It is a setting designed not just to be looked at, but to be lived in.

This Grantville home is a strong example of what happens when a proven design is carefully adapted rather than simply repeated. By reimagining our Eden design for this site and these clients, we were able to create a home that feels specific, resolved and deeply practical, with bold material choices, a warm interior character and a layout that supports the rhythms of real family life.
